Elizabeth City, N.C. (Apr. 13, 2024)- The Virginia State University (17-2, 12-0) softball team played a double header at Elizabeth City State University (5-9, 4-5) and swept the Vikings 5-1 in game 1 and 4-0 in game 2 to remain undefeated in conference play.

Hailey Darrington started the game with a single and a steal of second before Alaijah Pratt hit her first home run of the season to giver VSU a 2-0 lead

The Vikings would manage to get out of the first inning and wouldn't do anything in the bottom of the first and neither team did anything in the second inning

Darrington tripled to begin the third inning then Pratt hit a sac fly to center field. Jaya Diggs-Hagwood singled to short then Mylia Knight doubled to bring her around to score before Skye Corum hit a one out double to score Knight

Kara Green who started the game inside the circle managed to hold the Vikings four hits in the first six innings

In the bottom of the seventh the Vikings did manage to hit a homerun and pick up two more hits, but Green managed to pick up her sixth win of the season

Darrington, Pratt and Diggs-Hagwood all finished with two hits and Pratt ended game one with three RBI's

Neither team managed to get more than one person on bases until the sixth inning

In the sixth Diggs-Hagwood scored the first run of the game with a two out homerun which Knight followed with another homerun to make it 2-0

Then in the seventh Corum hit a single and Lauren Parham pinch ran for her. Maisie Spivey singled to move Parham to second. Back-to-back passed ball let Parham score and Spivey to get to third base. Darrington hit a single, but the Vikings managed to get Spivey out at home

Pratt did manage to collect an insurance run by hitting a double to score Darrington from first as she was moving with two outs

Diggs-Hagwood managed to sit the Vikings down in the bottom of the seventh collecting her third win of the season
The team will return home tomorrow, Sunday April 14 for senior day against Bluefield State with the double header starting at 1 pm.
