Spartanburg, S.C. (March 13, 2024)- The Virginia State University women's lacrosse team tried to make a late push in the fourth quarter, but it was Converse University who came out on top 13-9.
After getting shut out in the first quarter and seeing the Valkyries up 3-0. Jhalin Hooks scored a man-up goal and Sarai Reyes-Roman scored to get VSU on the board and make the score 3-2. Converse would add another goal at 10:09 and just 29 seconds later Hooks would score her second of the period. Hooks would score her third goal of the quarter at the 2:11 mark but the Trojans would still be down one goal, 5-4. The Valkyries would add another goal with just 11 seconds left in the first half making the halftime score 6-4.
Over the third quarter Converse University would go on a 5-1 run with the only Trojan goal coming courtesy of Grace Hall going into the final stanza down by six 11-5. Hall would net another goal at the 10:55 mark, but Converse would answer one minute and 20 seconds later to keep their lead at six. In two minutes, Rylie Banks and Hooks scored back-to-back-to-back goals to cut the Trojans deficit to 12-9 with just over five minutes left in the game.
Hooks ended the game with five goals and four ground balls while Reyes-Roman scored one goal, recorded an assist and four ground balls. The team returns home this Saturday March 16 as West Virginia Wesleyan comes to Rogers Stadium at 12 pm.
