Lincon, Pa. (Feb. 10, 2024)- The Virginia State University men's basketball team entered the game versus Lincoln on a three-game win streak, but the Lions would end the streak with a 77-66 win.
Lincoln started the game on a 13-4 run before back-to-back buckets by Dajour Rucker made it 13-9 at the 14-minute mark. However, over the next three minutes the Lions would score nine of the next 14 points to stretch out their lead to 22-14. With five minutes left in the first half LUP had a 10-point advantage at 29-19. Buckets by Anthony Crosby, Jonathan Norfleet and Ruck made the score 31-27 with 2 minutes and 47 seconds left. The Lions would go into the break with the lead 39-32 as they lead the whole opening 20 minutes.
Over the opening five minutes Tremere Brown would score seven of the first nine points for the Trojans but their deficit stayed at seven points, 48-41. Three minutes later Lincoln would obtain their biggest lead up to that point at 55-43. Then at the 7:14 mark the Trojans would complete a 12-4 run with Kendall Bynum and Imhotep George both scoring five points, making the score 59-54. However, it seemed that the Lions always had an answer for when the Trojans got within five to hold on for a 77-66 victory.
Rucker and Brown both had double figures at 16 and 13 points respectfully. With the loss VSU drops to 12-12 overall and 6-7 in the CIAA while Lincoln improves to 13-11 and 9-5 in conference. Next for the team will by a road game to Bluefield State on Wednesday February 14 at 7:30 pm.
