VSU see season end in CIAA Semifinals match

Bowie, Md (Nov. 23, 2024)- The Virginia State University (16-8) volleyball team saw their historic season end at the hands of Fayetteville State (18-4) 3-0 in the semifinal match of the CIAA Tournament.

The Broncos jumped out to an 11-7 advantage in the first set. From there the teams continued to go back and forth with the score at 17-14. From there a five-point run for the Trojans gave them their first lead of the set.  During the run Helena Eubanks recorded two kills. The teams would then see themselves tied at 23 all before two straight points from FSU won them the set 25-23.

Set two started as a back-and-forth affair with VSU leading 13-12 after an attack error by Fayetteville State. After that FSU would score nine of the ten points to grow their advantage to 21-14. Kills from Amaya Cooper and Gracie Darville stopped the run, but the Broncos continued to be white hot winning set two 25-18.

Set three was also tightly contested with VSU having a one-point disadvantage at 14-13. Three straight points from FSU grew their lead to 17-13. However the Trojans would chip away at the lead eventually making it a one point game again after an attack error by FSU, 22-21. However the Broncos scored three of the last four points to advance to the championship game.

Eubanks and Taniyah Epps end their careers at VSU with Eubanks being all over the record books, second in kills and scoring over 1000 career points. Peyton Reese recorded yet another 20+ assists game with 22 and had a double-double with 10 digs. The Trojans will re gear for the 2025 season and we hope to see everyone at the MPC cheering on the team!!!
