Petersburg,VA- Virginia State University men's soccer faced Shaw University on October 5, 2024, at home in Ettrick, VA, at Rogers Stadium. The Trojans suffered a 1-0 defeat, dropping their season record to 1-6-1, while the Bears improved to 3-6-0.
Shaw took an early lead with Safari Kashindi scoring at the 14:36 mark. VSU created several chances to respond, including two shots from Yoskar Quintanilla, but they couldn't convert. The Trojans' goalkeeper, Xavier Brisbon, made several key saves, including a penalty kick stop from Shaw's Kyle Hatmaker at the 24:15 mark, keeping VSU in the game.
In the second half, both teams continued to compete, with VSU pressing for an equalizer. Eddison Duolo, Matt Brown, and Ben Allen each had shots on target, but Shaw's goalkeeper, Sebastian Brenner, remained strong in net. Brisbon also made crucial saves, including a stop on Kashindi in the final minutes of the match. Despite the Trojans' best efforts, they were unable to find the back of the net.
