Trojans begin three game road trip

Ettrick, Va. (Jan. 3, 2024)- The 11-1 Virginia State University women's basketball team begins a three-game conference road trip beginning at Johnson C. Smith University on Thursday January 4 at 5:30 p.m. 

VSU enters the game following a win over Chowan University, 66-47 on December 30. The team averages 75.1 points per game and only allows 61.6 points per game. They shot 43.1 % from the field and 33.5 % from three-point land.  Amesha Miller leads the team with 13.7 points per game and Tiyanna James is close behind with 13.4 points per game. Mihjae Hayes and Cabria Lewis are the last two Trojans to average double digits at 11.2 and 10.9 respectfully. Miller also brings down a team high of 9.4 rebounds per game which is good for 33rd overall in the nation. 

JCSU is playing their first game since December 19 when they defeated Benedict College 89-61 to improve their record to 4-6. As a team the Golden Bulls average 62.7 points per game while giving up 62.6 points per game. They shoot 40 % from the field and 33.5 % from three-point range. Ciara Harris is the leading scorer at almost 15 points per game. Kelis Carmon averages 11.2 points per game. Despite playing in only four games Ashlei Kirven averages 13 points and 14.3 rebounds per game.  

The game is scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m. and live video and stats will be available.
