Ettrick, Va (Jan. 27, 2024)- The Virginia State University women's basketball team took down Lincoln University 66-43, where 10 different players scored a basket.
After ending the first quarter down by two points (17-15), VSU started the first six minutes of the second quarter on a 12-5 run that saw both Amesha Miller and Cabria Lewis both score six points. Miller would score the last basket in the first half for the Trojans at the 2-minute mark to make the score 29-24 before the Lions hit a three-pointer making the halftime score 29-26.
Opening the second half the Trojans dominated, scoring 18 of the first 20 points to extend their meager three-point advantage into a 19-point lead, 47-28. The Lions were held almost seven minutes without a field goal before they hit a three and a layup at the three minute and 1:50 minute mark. However, Virginia State scored the final six points of the period, 53-33. In the fourth period Skylar White his a layup at the five minute mark to give VSU their largest lead of the game 61-37 (24 points). The Trojans would hold on the the large advantage and win 66-43.
Tiyanna James and Miller scored 11 and 10 points respectfully as the Trojans only double figure scorers. With the win VSU improves to 16-2 overall and 8-2 in conference play while Lincoln drops to 8-10 and 4-6. The team hits the road Wednesday January 31st at 5:30 p.m. for a game against Bowie State.
