Institute, W. Va.- The Virginia State University volleyball team traveled up to Institute to take on the Yellow Jackets of West Virginia State University for a pair of matches. The Trojans dropped both matches in 3-0 fashion (25-15, 25-21, 25-18 G1) and (25-13, 25-20 and 25-17 G2)
Game 1

After an early 4-4 tie WVSU went on to score the next four points, doubling the Trojans 8-4 in the first set.

West Virginia State was the first team into double figures as they grew their lead to 14-9.

The Trojans could never maintain momentum as their deficient in the first set continued to grow eventually dropping set 1, 25-15

In Set 2 both teams were evenly match playing to an early 5-5 tie, before the Yellow Jackets would win three of the next four points to take an 8-6 advantage.

VSU would find themselves down 13-8, before they rattled off four quick points, thanks to a service error by West Virginia State, a kill by Kennedy Hoge and two attach errors by WVSU.

The Yellow Jackets answered by going on a 4-1 run to increase their margin to 17-13.

VSU would tie the game at 20 all thanks to Hoge, Peyton Resse, two by Hele Eubanks and De'Mya Robinson.

However, WVSU would score 5 of the last six points to go up 2 sets to zero (25-21)

The third set saw VSU gather its first lead of the match when an attack error by WVSU gave them a slim 9-8 advantage.

After that WVSU pulled away and took the first match in three straight sets 25-15, 25-21 and 25-18.

Hoge lead the team with seven kills, Robinson wasn't far behind with six and Resse dished out 20 assists
Game 2

VSU dropped the second game in straight sets as well (25-13, 25-20 and 25-17)

The second set was a back-and-forth affair until the Trojans went on a 4-0 run to take the lead 15-14

Unfortunately, the Yellow Jackets would score five straight points to take a 21-17 lead late and rode the momentum to win the set

Both the first and third set were controlled by WVSU and VSU could never fully take the momentum
With the two losses Virginia State moves to 1-6 overall ans West Virginia State moves up to 8-3 overall. The Trojans will stay in West Virginia as they play another MEC opponent in the Concord Mountain Lions tomorrow at 11 A.M.
