ETTRICK, VA (February 8, 2023)- The VSU women's basketball team move to an 9-14 overall record, 5-7 in the CIAA, after a conference loss to the Shaw Bears on Wednesday evening.

First Half
Despite Shaw opening the game with a basket, Raija Todd got the Trojans on the board with a free throw. The Bears kicked their game into high gear going on a 6-0 run, but Boogie Robinson answered back with consecutive 3-pointers. Sommer Blakemore followed up with a layup to tie the score 9-all. The quarter saw 2 more lead changes and a tied score before ending the first 10 minutes in favor of Shaw, 18-14.

The Trojans had a tough battle in the second quarter as the Bears went on several runs, only allowing VSU to score 6 points. At halftime, the Trojans entered the locker room trailing, 31-20.

Second Half
VSU picked up their momentum for the third quarter as they out scored Shaw, 10-2. With the increased drive, the Trojans closed the scoring gap, to only trail the Bear 33-30 at the end of three.

Shaw took control of the fourth quarter, not allowing VSU a chance to bounce back to regain a lead. Outscoring the Trojans 20-9 in the final quarter, VSU suffered a 53-39 loss to Shaw.

Leaders
The VSU Trojans were led by Sommer Blakemore with 16 points and 3 assists. Boogie Robinson controlled the Trojans boards with 9 rebounds to accompany her 10 points. Kamryn Anthony also contributed as a stat lead with 3 assists of her own.

Up Next
The Trojans will return to action on Saturday, February 11 to take on the Lady Vikings of Elizabeth City State University.  The CIAA matchup is set for 12:00pm in Elizabeth City, NC.
