Box Score ETTRICK, VA (February 6, 2023)- The VSU women's basketball team move to an 9-13 overall record, 5-7 in the CIAA, after securing a close 66-64 win over the Lincoln University Lady Lions on Monday evening the VSU Multipurpose Center.
First Half
The first quarter opened up with a shot from behind the arc by
Kalyn Ervin to give the Trojans a 3-0 lead. At the media timeout with 4:17 left in the quarter, the Trojans held strong with a score of 11-7. Continuing to extend the scoring gap, VSU end the first 10:00 of the matchup with a 19-10 lead.
Shayla Sweeney added to the Trojans lead to start the second quarter. Despite the Lady Lions battling to close the scoring gap, the Trojans were up, 26-19 with 4:46 left until halftime. Finding the right spot to take a shot,
Kylah Webb secured a basket for VSU, followed by Ervin with a 3-pointer to give the Trojans a double-digit lead, 31-21. VSU entered the locker room with a leading score of 35-26 at halftime.
Second Half
Although Lincoln seemed to step up their game to start the third quarter, VSU fought to hold on to their lead. With 4:56 left in the quarter, the Trojans had a 43-38 lead. After two good free throws by
Kamryn Anthony,
Sommer Blakemore followed up with a steal and layup to further extend the scoring gap. The Trojans gained momentum at the final minute of the third quarter, giving them a 54-43 lead.
Lincoln began to bounce back in the fourth quarter as they went on a scoring run. At a Trojans called timeout, VSU held a 4-point lead. The battle continued as the Trojans held a 63-62 lead with 3:16 left in the game. Anthony secured a much-needed basket to move the Trojans ahead, but the Lady Lions answered back to bring the score back within one point. The intense game was down to the wire with 28.6 left in the regulation. The Trojans prevailed with a 66-64 victory.

Leading the Trojans with 26 points while Boogie Robinson secured 5 steals was
Kalyn Ervin.
Kamryn Anthony, Boogie Robinson, Rajia Todd and Kalyn Webb each stepped in with 4 rebounds, while
Sommer Blakemore tallied 6 assists.
Up Next
The Trojans will return to action on Wednesday, February 8 to take on the Lady Bears of Shaw State University. The CIAA northern division matchup is set for 5:30pm.
