VSU Women’s Basketball Rescheduled Matchup Against LUPA Lady Lions on Monday, Feb. 6

ETTRICK, VA- The Virginia State University women's basketball team will matchup against the Lincoln University Lady Lions for their rescheduled contest on Monday, February 6. The CIAA matchup is set for 5:30pm at the VSU Multipurpose Center.

Series History
The VSU Trojans are 18-9 against the Lincoln Lady Lions in the series. The teams met last week on January 26, where VSU fell short of the win with a final road score of 76-58.

The Trojans are 8-13 on the season, 4-7 in the CIAA, under the leadership of VSU's 1st year head coach Nadine Domond. On Jan 28, VSU fell short of win, 59-47, against Bowie State University on the road. The squad currently shoots 35.5% from the field and is averaging 58.5 points per contest. They are ranked second in the conference in free throw percentage knocking down 70.5% of their shots from the foul line. They look to improve from behind the arc as they shoot just 98-of-374 (26.2%) from the three-point line.

Defensively, they average 10 steals per game while forcing 20.7 turnovers per contest.

Sommer Blakemore leads the team with 14.2 points per game; shooting 37% from the field, and averaging 3.5 free throws and 3.6 assists per game. Kalyn Ervin steps in with 2.5 steals per game, while Kylah Webb leads the Trojans in rebounds, averaging 5.6 boards per game.

Scouting the Lincoln Lady Lions
Lincoln is 15-6 on the season, 9-2 in the CIAA after a Jan. 28 loss to Elizabeth City State University. The Lady Lions are averaging 69.8 points per game while allowing 64.8. Collectively, they are shooting 39.9% from the field, 31.2% from three-point range and 61% from the foul line. The Lady Lions average 41.4 rebounds and 12.3 assists per game. They are also averaging 18 turnovers per game while allowing opponents to score 17.8 points off of turnovers. They have averaged 9.5 steals and 1.6 blocks on the season. Anyssa Fields leads Lincoln averaging 15.7 points and 8 rebounds per game. Jaleesa Lanier leads the team in assists with 2.9 per game.
