Ettrick, Va.- The Virginia State University women's soccer team dropped their last home game of the season 4-2 to the Yellow Jackets of Allen University.
Both teams would score early in the game as Allen found the back of the net thanks to a penalty shot at a minute and 35 seconds, but just 23 seconds later Alana Martin would score as she shot the ball right over the goalie for a 1-1 tie just two minutes into the match.
Then while VSU would continue to get shots on goal the Yellow Jackets goalie was able to stop all of them. Allen would retake the lead in the 31st minute, but Morgan Parris would get her own penalty shot opportunity in the 36th minute and she didn't waste the chance scoring into the bottom right corner.
That would be all the scoring for the first half with the energy inside the stadium at an all-time high with fans cheering on the Trojans. However, going into the second half the Yellow Jackets would reclaim the momentum with a goal seven minutes into the period. They would later add an insurance goal in the 76th minute.
In the late stages of the game VSU would get a free kick from just outside the box and would have a great opportunity to score, but with too many people in the box they were unable to capitalize and that would be the last opportunity for the Trojans.
With the loss Virginia State moves to 2-9-2 and Allen is now 4-10-1 overall, VSU next game is against Emory & Henry College on Wednesday October 15 with kickoff scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
