Four Trojans Score in Double-Digits to Secure a Win over Livingstone

Box Score ETTRICK, VA (January 8, 2023)- The VSU women's basketball team move to a 7-7 overall record, 3-2 in the CIAA, after a 60-56 conference victory over the Livingstone College Lady Blue Bears.

First Half
Taking an early home court advantage, the Trojans took a 12-7 first quarter lead with Boogie Robinson and Shayla Sweeney leading the charge.

The Trojans kept their foot on the gas in the second quarter with much needed buckets to extend the scoring gap. With 7:07 left in the half, VSU held strong to a 17-10 lead over Livingstone. Trips to the free throw line allowed the Trojans to tack on additional points for a double-digit lead at halftime. The teams entered the locker room with the score in favor of VSU, 32-17.

Second Half
Despite the Lady Blue Bears attempt to jump ahead, the Trojans stayed constituent on their game, applying pressure to control the court. Mimicking the first half with several trips to the line, VSU maintained a steady lead increase. At the end of the third quarter, the Trojans held a 49-34 lead over the Lady Blue Bears.

The pressure on the court increased for both teams, as the battle for the victory continued. The fourth quarter seemed to rule in favor of the visiting Lady Blue Bears as they closed the scoring gap, 53-46, with 4:05 left in regulation. After going scoreless for several plays, a floater by Blakemore, followed by a travel and foul charged to Livingstone, the Trojans found themselves back in a winning rhythm. VSU secured a win with a final score of 60-56.
