ETTRICK, VA- The Virginia State University women's basketball team is prepared to host the Lady Rams of Winston-Salem State University on January 5, 2023 at the VSU Multipurpose Center. The women's first game of the new year will tip-off at 5:30pm.

Nadine Domond. On Dec. 31, VSU secured a 68-62 non-conference win over the Barton College Bulldogs. The squad currently shoots 35% from the field and is averaging 62 points per contest. They rank third in the conference in free throw percentage knocking down 72% of their shots from the foul line and are second in the conference with a turnover margin of 4.3. They look to improve from behind the arc as they shoot just 59-of-230 (25%) from the three-point line.
Defensively, VSU is second in the conference in defense points per game (56.8). The Trojans are leading in the CIAA in opponent three-point percentage forcing opponents the field and 22% from beyond the arc against them and are third in opponents field goal percentage (35%). They average 10.6 steals per game while forcing 21 turnovers per contest.
Sommer Blakemore leads the team with 15.3 points per game; shooting 40% from the field, and averages 3.5 free throws, 2.8 steals and 3.3 assists per game.
Kylah Webb leads the Trojans in rebounds, averaging 5.7 boards per game.

WSSU is 6-5 on the season, 2-1 in the CIAA after a Dec. 31 loss against Glenville State. The Lady Rams are averaging 71 points per game while allowing 59. They shoot 43% from the field, 35% from three-point range and 66% from the foul line. WSSU averages 39 rebounds and 14 assists per game. They also are averaging 19 turnovers per game while allowing opponents to score 13 points off turnovers. They have averaged 13 steals and 2 blocks on the season.
