BOWIE, MD- The Virginia State University women's basketball team will wrap up their road game matchups on Saturday, January 28 with a contest against the Lady Bulldogs of Bowie State University. The CIAA matchup is set for 12:00pm at the A.C. Jordan Arena.

Series History
The VSU Trojans are 16-14 against the Bowie State Lady Bulldogs in the series. The teams met last season during the 2022 CIAA Basketball Tournament, where VSU secured a 50-33 victory!

The Trojans are 8-12 on the season, 4-6 in the CIAA, under the leadership of VSU's 1^st year head coach Nadine Domond. On Jan 26, VSU fell short of win, 76-58, against Lincoln University on the road. The squad currently shoots 35.5% from the field and is averaging 59 points per contest. They are ranked second in the conference in free throw percentage knocking down 70.2% of their shots from the foul line. They look to improve from behind the arc as they shoot just 94-of-358 (26.3%) from the three-point line.

Defensively, they average 10 steals per game while forcing 20.8 turnovers per contest. 

Sommer Blakemore leads the team with 14.3 points per game; shooting 37.5% from the field, and averaging 3.5 free throws and 3.6 assists per game. Kalyn Ervin steps in with 2.6 steals per game, while Kylah Webb leads the Trojans in rebounds, averaging 5.8 boards per game.


Scouting the Lincoln Lady Lions
Bowie State is 11-8 on the season, 7-3 in the CIAA after a Jan. 25 win over Shaw University. The Lady Bulldogs are averaging 61.6 points per game while allowing 58.3. Collectively, they are shooting 34.6% from the field, 26.1% from three-point range and 61.3% from the foul line. The Lady Bulldogs average 41.2 rebounds and 8.3 assists per game. They are also averaging 16.8 turnovers per game while allowing opponents to score 14.6 points off of turnovers. They have averaged 9.5 steals and 1.5 blocks on the season. Anii Harris leads Bowie State averaging 14.5 points per game, while Saniha Jackson averages 5.5 rebounds per game. Seanice Lyons leads the team in assists with 2.9 per game.
