LINCOLN, PA (January 26, 2023)- The VSU women's basketball team move to an 8-12 overall record, 4-6 in the CIAA, after suffering a 76-58 conference loss to the Lincoln University Lady Lions on Thursday evening.
First Half
The Trojans controlled the opened minutes of the first quarter, taking an 8-3 lead. Lincoln would soon tie the score, 8-all, to control the quarter with a score of 16-13. The second quarter saw several lead changes as both teams battled for the control of the court. Despite the Trojans efforts, they entered the locker room at halftime, trailing 33-30.
Second Half
Majority of the third quarter rule in favor of the Trojans as they used shots from behind the arc and layups to move ahead. The Lady Lions took advantage of free throws to end the quarter, 51-48. VSU was not able to bounce back in the fourth quarter, as Lincoln went on a scoring run, giving the Trojans a 76-58 loss.
Leaders
VSU had 3 Trojans to score in double-digits. The team was led by
Sommer Blakemore with 14 points and 8 assists, followed by
Raija Todd with 13 points and
Kalyn Ervin with 11 points. Controlling the boards for the Trojans was
Kylah Webb with 4 rebounds.
Up Next
The Trojans will travel to Bowie, MD on Saturday, January 28 to take on the Lady Bulldogs of Bowie State University. The CIAA northern division matchup is set for 12:00pm.
