VSU Women’s Basketball Are On the Road to Face Lady Lions on Jan. 26

LINCOLN, PA- The Virginia State University women's basketball team continue their road game matchups on Thursday, January 26 with a contest against the Lady Lions of Lincoln University. The CIAA matchup is set for 5:30pm at the Manuel Rivero Gymnasium.

Series History
The VSU Trojans are 18-8 against the Lincoln Lady Lions in the series. The teams met last season, where VSU fell short of the win with a final score of 77-62.

The Trojans are 8-11 on the season, 4-5 in the CIAA, under the leadership of VSU's 1st year head coach Nadine Domond. On Jan 23, VSU fell short of win, 71-56, against Bluefield State University on the road. The squad currently shoots 35% from the field and is averaging 59 points per contest. They are ranked second in the conference in free throw percentage knocking down 69% of their shots from the foul line. They look to improve from behind the arc as they shoot just 88-of-345 (25.5%) from the three-point line.

Defensively, VSU is third in the conference in defense points per game (58.2). They average 10 steals per game while forcing 18.8 turnovers per contest. 

Sommer Blakemore leads the team with 14.3 points per game; shooting 37.6% from the field, and averaging 3.5 free throws and 3.4 assists per game. Kalyn Ervin steps in with 2.6 steals per game, while Kylah Webb leads the Trojans in rebounds, averaging 5.8 boards per game.

Scouting the Lincoln Lady Lions
Lincoln is 14-5 on the season, 8-1 in the CIAA after a Jan. 23 win over Washington Adventist University. The Lady Lions are averaging 70.6 points per game while allowing 64.9. Collectively, they are shooting 39.6% from the field, 32% from three-point range and 60% from the foul line. The Lady Lions average 42.3 rebounds and 12.8 assists per game. They are also averaging 17.8 turnovers per game while allowing opponents to score 19.4 points off of turnovers. They have averaged 9.6 steals and 1.6 blocks on the season. Anyssa Fields leads Lincoln averaging 15.8 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. Jaleesa Lanier leads the team in assists with 3.2 per game.
