VSU Volleyball Prepares for Divisional Matchup Against Lincoln (Pa.) to Start their Week

ETTRICK, VA – The Virginia State University Trojans are coming off their first conference win of the season against the Bowie State Bulldogs after sweeping them 3-0. This win marked the fifth in the last six matches for the Trojans. They are now packing their bags to travel to Pennsylvania to take on another divisional opponent in Lincoln University.
 
 
Last Time Out
This past Thursday the Trojans took on Bowie State University and completed a successful sweep winning 3-0. Amaya Cooper led the Trojans once again in kills in this time around with 10 while Helena Eubanks finished with nine. Najlaa Williams led the team with three aces and led the match with 16 digs in the contest while Jennah Kareem accounted for 10. Zaria Irons earned a personal season-high four blocks in the win. Makenzy Johnson led her team with 14 assists while Emma Quarles earned 12 assists. VSU controlled the net winning the kills battle 38-23. The Trojans earned the edge in digs 47-33.
 
 
Series History
The Trojans are undefeated against the Lions as they have a 18-0 record against them in matchups dating back to 2021.
 
 
Trojans Leaders
On the Offensive side of the ball, Helena Eubanks is the first trojan to hit triple digits in kills this season as she leads the Trojans in kills with 101 which also ranks second overall in the CIAA. Amaya Cooper is second on the team with 99 kills which ranks her third overall in the CIAA. Makenzy Johnson has eclipsed the 200 mark in assists this season as she has a team-high 201 assists which is the most in the CIAA. Emma Quarles is not far behind with 169 which ranks her second in assists in the CIAA. Leyla Conley leads the team in service aces with 17 which is the most in the CIAA. Defensively, Najlaa Williams leads the Trojans and CIAA in digs with 171. Kennedy Hoge is second on the team in digs with 96 which ranks her fourth in the CIAA. Amaya Cooper leads the team in blocks with 33 with Leyla Conley second in blocks with 26. As a team the Trojans are second in the CIAA in kills with 446 and first in the CIAA in digs with 619.
 
 
Scouting the Opponent – Lincoln University
The Lions are offensively led by Haley Loper with a team-high 45 kills. Jaida Lumpkin has the team-high in assists with 60. Defensively, they are led by Mariah Webster who has the team-high in digs with 45. Laila Newborn and Erinn Taylor tie for the tea- high in blocks with 10 apiece.
 
 
Up Next
The Trojans will look to earn a win before heading into the first CIAA Roundup of the season this weekend as they are set to play Livingstone College, Fayetteville State University, and Claflin University in A.C Jordan Arena on the campus of Bowie State University.
