ETTRICK, VA (Sept. 16, 2022) - The Virginia State University (VSU) men's and women's cross country teams are approaching their mid-season competition as they travel to Richmond later this week to compete in the Virginia Union University Cross Country Opener 8k on Friday, September 16. The meet will be hosted by Virginia Union University in Richmond, Virginia and is set to commence at 4:00 p.m.
Heading into the VUU Cross Country Opener, the VSU Men's Cross Country team are fresh off winning their season opener last Friday with 22 points after competing in their first 8k race of the 2022 season.
Last time out, freshman sensation JaPrince Gaines barely broke a sweat finishing his first career 8k in first place. The Coconut Creek, FL native ran a time of 29:45.5 with a 5:59.1 mile split. Behind Gaines came
Gabriel Miles who ran a personal record 30:13.8 with a 6.04.8 split which placed him second.
Jalen Brownlee finished his race with a time of 30:41.7, with a 6:10.4 mile split which gave him a third place finish.
