ETTRICK, VA --The Virginia State Volleyball team (4-6) wins their third match straight against Bloomsburg in five sets (17-25, 25-12, 25-23, 19-25, 15-13.) The Trojans played a total of 10 sets the first day of the UC Invitational.

- Kennedy Hoge played out of her mind against BU earning season-high and personal best 14 kills and 20 digs.
- Alexis McNair earned a personal best 10 kills in the win.
- Freshman Leyla Conley showed her versatility once again as she earned a new personal best and team-high of four aces along with three blocks.
- Makenzy Johnson led her team with a team-high and season-high of 22 assists.
- VSU controlled the net winning the kills battle 51-44

How It Happened
SET 1 | After BU went on an early run,
Taniyah Epps had a kill that brought the score to 3-6. As the Trojans would continue to fight for the lead, BU continued to control the set 5-10. Bloomsburg would go on a 4-1 scoring run until
Kennedy Hoge had an intense kill bringing the score to 7-14. However, the Trojans were not able to push through the first set as BU scored 6 of sixhe last eight points to take the opening set 17-25.
SET 2 | The Trojans came out strong with back-to-back kills from
Alexis McNair and
Helena Eubanks. The two teams traded points until VSU went on a 7-0 run and extended the lead 13-3. The Huskies tried to make a comeback until the Trojans went on another run 4-0 including an ace from
Najlaa Williams followed by a kill from
Alexis McNair making the score 21-8. VSU controlled the rest of the set finishing with back-to-back kills from
Helena Eubanks and
Amaya Cooper 25-12.
SET 3 | VSU kept the same energy from set two and brought it into set three going on another early 7-0 run extending the lead to 9-2. The two teams were trading points with BU going on multiple small runs. Bloomsburg would begin to mount their comeback cutting VSU's lead to 22-18. Making things interesting, the Huskies were able to come back to within a point after a small 3-0 run making the score 24-23. However, the Trojans were able to conquer the third set with a kill coming from
Alexis McNair ending the set 25-23.
SET 4 | The fourth set started off a back-and-forth affair until BU went on a strong 5-0 run which was halted by a kill from
Amaya Cooper making the score 3-7. Bloomsburg continued to control the set while both teams traded points until VSU went on a 4-0 run including an ace from
Leyla Conley immediately followed by a kill from
Kennedy Hoge making the score 14-17. Even with a pair of back-to-back kills from
Kennedy Hoge and
Alexis McNair, the Huskies managed to have success by ending the set on an ace making the score 19-25.
SET 5 | After the two teams tied at four, both teams continued to trade points until back-to-back kills from
Amaya Cooper and
Alexis McNair increased the intensity from the Trojans putting VSU in a slight lead 11-10. Points continued to be traded creating a tie at 13-13. However, VSU was able to pull out a tough victory with scoring the last two points and ending the final set on an ace from
Emma Quarles 15-13.
