Trojans Split Doubleheader with the Builders

ETTRICK, VA  – The Trojans split with The Newport News Apprentice School after winning 6-3 thanks to a bomb by Ricky Jones with the bases loaded to win the first game. The Trojans went on to drop the second game 5-3.


Game 1
The Trojans were able to strike first in the top of the second inning as they took the early lead 1-0. After a scoreless third inning, the Trojans added to their lead with a run in the top of the fourth inning to make the score 2-0. In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Builders fought back with a run to make the score 2-1. Ricky Jones would put the game out of reach in top seventh inning, as he hit a grand slam into right center field to make the score 6-1. The Builders attempted to make a comeback in the bottom of the seventh inning scoring two runs but ultimately fell 6-3. VSU scored six runs on 10 hits with one errors while The Apprentice School scored three runs on eight hits with no errors.

Game 2
In the bottom of the second inning, the Builders scored four runs to take a 4-0 lead. The Trojans fought back with a run in the top of the third inning to make the score 4-1 early in the contest. After two scoreless innings, VSU added a run to make the score 4-2 but the Builders answered with one of their own to make it 5-2. Down three runs with last chance to tie the ball game, the Trojans could only score one run to make the final score 5-3. The Builders scored five runs on five hits with no errors while the Trojans scored three runs on seven hits with no errors.
