ETTRICK, VA – The Trojans drop a midweek dual against Barton 3-7 after battling hard for nine innings. The Bulldogs earned seven runs on nine hits with no errors while the Trojans score three runs on five hits with an error.
How It Happened
In the top of the first inning,
Dawsyn Hock put a ball high into center field which gave the Barton's outfielder trouble locating the ball in the sun. The ball got down to score
Tahraun Hammond to make the score 1-0. After the same thing happened to the VSU center fielder, the Bulldogs started the game with a triple. BC would single on the next at-bat to score the run from third to make the score 1-1 in the bottom of the first inning. After holding the Bulldogs scoreless for nearly three innings, the home team scored their runner from third base on a double played turned by
Tahraun Hammond and
Joshua Tayman to give BC the lead 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Barton added to their lead on a sacrifice fly ball to right field to make it 3-1. The Bulldogs would stay hot in the bottom of the fifth inning scoring on yet another double play turned by
Christian Henderson. Later that inning, they scored on a wild pitch right before scoring on a fielding error to make the score 6-1. The Trojans would shorten the lead in the bottom of the eighth inning as
Nicholas Woolfolk scored while
Tahraun Hammond picked up the RBI. The hot bat of
Dawsyn Hock doubled down the right field line to score
Ricky Jones to make the it 6-3. The Bulldogs would extend their lead to four, as they were able to bring a runner in to score on a double down the left field line. The Trojans were held scoreless in the top of the ninth inning to give the Bulldogs the win 3-7.
