CHINA GROVE, NC– The VSU Trojans golf team opened their 2022 season on the road at the Blue Bear Golf Invitational on September 21-22.
The Trojans finished the invitational with a two round total of 716 as the Trojans took the overall fourth place finish. The host, Livingstone College, finished with a first place team stroke of 577, followed by Fayetteville State with a second place team stroke of 630. Johnson C. Smith finished in third place with 670 strokes while Winston-Salem State came in fifth place with a stroke count of 926.
Juan Ruiz led VSU with a two round stroke of 166, which allowed him to tie for 10
th place individual finish. Ruiz averaged 5.13 in the Par 5s, 4.72 in the Par 4s, 4.00 in the Par 3s, 16 total pars with three birdie.
Rounding out the standings for VSU was Esteban Arango
as he tied for 14th place with a total score of 174 (95 and 79), while
Zahmel Wright finished 21 place with a total score of 186 (95 and 91),
Andrew Rhodes finished in 22
nd place with a total score of 190 (97 and 93) and
Simeon Sledge placed 23
th with a total score of 197 (102 and 95).
The Trojans will step out onto the green again on Monday, March 7 to compete in the SAU Roundup Golf Tournament.
