Trojans Travel to Atlanta to Open Season Against CAU

ATLANTA, GA  – Virginia State is set to hit the road to open the season down south in Atlanta, Georgia against Clark Atlanta University. On Saturday, the Trojans will play a single game at 4:00 p.m. and compete in a doubleheader at 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.

About Clark Atlanta
The Clark Atlanta Panthers fell on hard times in the 2021 season going 3-8 before canceling the remainder of their season. The Panthers lost by 10 or more runs five times in the 2021 season with their worst loss being, 26-0, to Savannah State. The Panthers are led by Justice Page who was .278 from the plate a season ago and led his team in hits (5) and doubles (3). Lorenzo Peterson will undoubtedly be the Panthers ace as he led his team in strikeouts a year ago with 20 and while also pitching the most innings on the team as well. While CAU hit .232 from the plate, the pitching rotation averaged an 18.21 ERA.  


 
Series History
The Trojans lead the series 10-0 against the Panthers. The largest margin of victory for the Trojans was in 2015 when the squad beat CAU, 23-4, as VSU averages 11.6 runs against Clark Atlanta. In the last meeting, Andrew Riddick got the win as the VSU defeated CAU, 14-4. The squad accumulated eight hits and drove in 12 runs in the contest. Three different players in Aaron Harris, Kevin Russell and Keyon Smith drove in two or more runs in the contest.
