VSU Women’s Basketball Are 1-1 in CIAA Play After Falling to FSU, 62-49

Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, NC (December 17, 2022)- The VSU women's basketball team move to a 4-6 overall record, 1-1 in the CIAA, after a conference loss to the Fayetteville State University (FSU) Lady Broncos on Saturday afternoon. Despite falling short of a win, 62-49, VSU's Sommer Blakemore control the game in scoring with 27 points.

First Half
Taking the home court advantage, FSU moved ahead to control the 1st quarter. The Trojans got into a rhythm in the second quarter securing their first lead of the game (16-15) with 2:46 left in the half. The Lady Broncos were not too far behind regaining control, but Kalyn Ervin's jumper ensured the Trojans would entered the locker room at halftime tied 18-all.

Second Half
The Trojans were not able to battle back in the 3rd and 4th quarter of the contest as the Lady Broncos went on a run to outscore the Trojans 44-31 in the second half. VSU fell short of the win against FSU with a final score of 62-49.  

Leaders
The VSU Trojans were led by Sommer Blakemore who led the game with 27 points, 6 steals and 5 rebounds.  Controlling the boards for the Trojans was Kalyn Ervin with 8 rebounds to accompany her 14 points.

Up Next
The Trojans will wrap up their 4-game road trip with a CIAA matchup against the Panthers of Claflin University. On December 19, the women will travel to Orangeburg, SC for a 5:30pm tip-off.
