Box Score RALEIGH, NC (December 15, 2022)- The VSU women's basketball team accomplished their mission of gaining a win to open CIAA conference play. The Trojans substantial 72-39 win over the St. Augustine's University Falcons saw a season high performance by
Sommer Blakemore with 32 points.
First Half
The Trojans went on an early 9-0 run to open the contest with help of Boogie Robinson and Blakemore behind the arc. Despite the Falcons attempt to close the scoring gap in the first quarter, the Trojans kicked their game into high gear in the second quarter. A jumper by
Kalyn Ervin moved VSU up to a double-digit lead, giving them the drive to dominate the court. VSU entered the locker room at halftime with a 38-23 lead over SAU.
Second Half
Keeping their momentum from the first half, the Trojans worked together to extend the scoring gap. As the game progress the victory undoubtedly belonged to VSU, who ended the contest with the highest lead of the game, 33 points. The final score ruled in favor of the Trojans, 72-39.
Leaders
In addition to
Sommer Blakemore's 32 points, she secured 9 rebounds. Evenly match on boards,
Kalyn Ervin also tallied 9 rebounds to accompany her 16 points. The Trojans took a lead over the Falcons in every category for the Trojans win to open conference play.

The Trojans will continue their CIAA matchups for game 3 of their 4-game road tour. On December 17, the women will travel to Fayetteville, NC to face the Lady Broncos of Fayetteville State University. Tip-off is set for 2:00pm
