SALEM, WV – Despite a late push from the Trojans in the fourth quarter, the Women's Basketball team fell short to Salem (WV) 79-71. The Trojans were able to go on a 10-0 run to end the first quarter trailing just 17-16. The Trojans took the lead at 19-18 with 8:19 left to go in the second quarter until SU regained control and did not let the lead go for the rest of the contest.
Kalyn Ervin proved that last game wasn't a fluke as she duplicated her 22-point performance off the bench against Salem (WV). She did so on 7-of-12 (58%) shooting from the field and 3-of-6 (50%) from three-point range. Ervin also grabbed six rebounds and accounted for a game changing five steals.
Raija Todd was able to settle into the ball game as she scored 18 points while shooting 4-of-9 (44%) from beyond the arc. Todd also grabbed three rebounds and dished out four assists along with a steal.
Sommer Blakemore scored 13 points and tied the game-high with five assists.
Trinity Moody was able to add contributions off the bench scoring seven points on 3-of-5 (60%) shooting from the field and knocked down her only three-point attempt. Moody also ripped down a career-high four rebounds in the contest.
The Trojans forced 24 turnovers and accounted for eight steals against the Lady Tigers. They tied their season low in turnovers with just 14 and second their second most points with 71 this season. They shot 71% from the free throw line and 33% from beyond the arc. They shot 4-of-7 (57%) from three-point range in the first quarter and 5-of-10 (50%) in the fourth quarter. The squad saw 34 points come off the bench and scored 21 points off turnovers. Unfortunately, the Trojans continue to struggle on the boards after being outrebounded 54-31.
