SALEM, VA – The Virginia State Women's Cross-Country was able to capture the silver medal in the 2022 CIAA Women's Cross Country Championship.
The VSU Women's Cross-Country team earned 62 points with an average time of 20:34. The first three runners for the Trojans finished fourth, sixth and eighth.
Manuelene Deigh earned yet another personal best after finishing her race in 19:40.2 with a 6:19.8 mile split. Her new personal best allowed her to place fourth of 64 runners in the 2022 CIAA Women's Cross Country Championship.
During the awards ceremony,
Manuelene Deigh was named CIAA Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Year as voted by the CIAA cross country head coaches and sports information directors.
Per usual, her twin sister
Manuela Deigh was not far behind placing sixth. She posted her fourth straight personal best performance of the season running a 19:52.9 with a 6:23.9 mile split.
Alandina Hyppolite finished her race in 20:07.9, with a 6:28.8 mile split which gave her an eighth place finish.
Miracle Price also earned herself a personal record as she finished in 20
th place after posting 21:27.1, with a 6:54.6 mile split.
Ruby Williams finished her race in 21:44.9 with a 7:00.0 mile split which gave her a 26
th place finish.
Sania Peterson concluded her race in 22:53.2 with a 7:21.9 mile split which placed her in 33
rd.
The All-CIAA women's team features the top 15 finishers, which were Shaw's Blaha and Schillaci, Fayetteville State's Gibson, Cheptoo, Cheboi, Chemutai, and Saunders,
Virginia State's Manuelene and Manuela Deigh, and Alandina Hyppolite, Madison McDonald of Claflin (10th), Zoey-Ann Wint of Elizabeth City State (11th), Dana Moreno of Shaw (12th), Sydney Mcdonald of Livingstone (13th), and Joyce Jepleting of St. Augustine's (14th).
