VSU Football Sets Out for Final Road Game of the Season Against Lincoln (Pa.)

Lincoln, Pennsylvania – The Virginia State Trojans are looking to stay on track after soundly defeating Elizabeth City 34-12 this past weekend as they travel to take on the Lions of Lincoln University (Pa.). The Divisional matchup is set for Saturday, October 29 at 1:00 p.m.

Self-Scouting
The Trojans currently average 30 points per game while giving up only 22 per game to opponents. The Trojans also average 416.6 yards per game while they are first in the CIAA and the nation in interceptions with 14 along with 20 sacks on the season.
 
 
VSU Run Game
The running game for the Trojans ranks second in the CIAA in rushing yards with 1,660 averaging 208 yards per game. They are second in the conference in rushing touchdowns with 18. Senior standout Darius Hagans leads the rushing attack with a team-high 798 yards which ranks him second in the conference. He has the longest running play of the season in the CIAA with an 86-yard touchdown run against Bluefield State University in which also was a career long for him. He currently stands 20th in the country in rushing yards also. Upton Bailey is second on the team with 419 rushing yards and first on the team in yards per carry with 6.2. He currently ranks eighth in CIAA in rushing yards. Kimo Clarke is third on the team in rushing with 187 rushing yards on 43 carries. He also is ties for first on the team in rushing touchdowns with five. Quarterback Jordan Davis adds six rushing touchdowns of his own this season. With Hagans leading the charge in the running back room, the trio of running backs have had a stellar season so far and have made the Trojans rushing attacks one to be respected by all the teams in the conference as all three have more than three rushing touchdowns.
 
 
VSU Passing Game
The passing attack for the Trojans ranks third in the CIAA with 1,673 passing yards and 13 passing touchdowns. The team averages 209 passing yards per game and have a 53% completion percentage. Jordan Davis is the leader of the passing attack as he has a team leading 1,297 passing yards and nine passing touchdowns and only two interceptions. He ranks fourth in the conference in passing yards and fourth in the conference in passing touchdown with 9. Prior to earning his first career start against LC, Jordan Davis came in a reliever role in the start of this season completing 75% of his passes for 230 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions. After efficient play in the first two games, he earned his first official start against Livingstone and went 18-30 passing for 251 yards with a touchdown through the air and a pair on the ground. Tylique Ray is now sixth in the conference in receiving yards with 387 on just 22 receptions. He has scored two touchdowns this season with one of them being a 76-yard reception.


VSU Defense
The VSU defense gives up 22 points per contest. They now lead the conference and the nation with 14 interceptions. Zion Johnson is first on the team in total tackles with 62 along with a pair of forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. His 62 total tackles ranks him fourth in the conference. Kymon Pope currently ranks second on the team in total tackles with 55 along with a forced fumble, two interceptions and three pass breakups. His 55 total tackles ranks him seventh in the conference. Pope has accounted for 37 solo tackles which ranks him sixth in the conference. Willie Drew now leads the conference and is third in the nation in interceptions with five and has also accounted for five pass breakups. He also has 29 tackles including 20 solo stops this season to go along with his terrific pass coverage statistics. Miqueal Pillow - Smiley leads the defensive line with 10 tackles-for-loss to go along with 4.5 sacks.
 

Opponent Scout – Lincoln Lions
The Lincoln Lions are currently sixth in the conference with a 2-5 record. The Lions enter the matchup coming off a 20-45 loss against Virginia Union. Lincoln (Pa.) average 16 points per game and give up 22 points per game to their opponents. Their offense is led by Quarterback Isaiah Freeman who leads the team with 1,348 passing yards and Running Back Amir Gerald who leads the team with 394 rushing yards. On defense, Kai Gray leads the team with 67 total tackles which ranks him third in the conference and 42 solo tackles which leads the conference.
