ROCHESTER, New York --Rahsaan Matthews Jr. tossed four touchdown passes to lead Virginia State past Lincoln (PA) 42-32 on the road Saturday afternoon.
The Trojans improved to 5-1 on the year and 4-0 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association play, while the Lions fell to 1-4 and 1-2.
Matthews Jr. went 19-for-31 with 356 yards on the way to the four-touchdown, zero-interception game.
Tj Mordecai led all Trojans rushers with 54 yards and one touchdown in the contest, picking up 4.9 yards per carry. Mordecai also added 73 receiving yards and one touchdown. Jaylen Pretlow also added 32 yards on the ground, averaging 10.7 yards per carry, as well as 65 receiving yards and one touchdown.
Kevin Gayles reeled in two catches for 93 yards and two scores.
Mustapha Coly led the Virginia State defensive effort, totaling 10 tackles, 3.0 TFL, and one sack. Rikieh Hopkins added 1.0 TFL and one sack and Team had in the win.
Defensively, Virginia State held up fairly well against the Lincoln (PA) rushing attack, holding the Lions to 158 yards on the ground.
