ETTRICK, VA – The Virginia State University Trojan volleyball team will honor its seniors 
Makenzy Johnson and Emma Qaurles Thursday, October 27 at 6:00 p.m. as they take on crosstown rivals Virginia Union.

Last Time Out
The Trojans fought hard but ultimately fell to Elizabeth City State 3-1. 
Amaya Cooper has now earned double-digit kills three of her last four matches after earning a team-high 12 while finishing with a .391 hitting percentage. 
Helena Eubanks earned 10 kills in the contest as well. 
Zaria Irons and 
Najlaa Williams each lead the team with a pair of service aces each. 
Alexis McNair earned a season-high three blocks in the contest while 
Zaria Irons and 
Kelsea Saulny. 
Emma Quarles led the team with 19 assists while her counterpart 
Makenzy Johnson ended with 13. 
Najlaa Williams was all over the court earning a match-high 15 digs while 
Kennedy Hoge ended with 10.
 
Series History
The Trojans are 18-2 against the Virginia Union Panthers since 2012. Their last match resulted in a 3-0 sweep Oct. 17 at Barco-Stevens Hall.  The Trojans are 9-0 in the VSU Multipurpose center and have one the last five games.
 
Trojans Leaders
Helena Eubanks leads the Trojans on the offensive side as she has a team-high 222 kills. 
Amaya Cooper is one away from 200 career kills with 199 on the season. Cooper is maintaining a .238 hitting percentage which lands her second on the team. 
Makenzy Johnson and 
Emma Quarles as a duo lead the Trojans in assists as they account for 747 assists between the two with 
Emma Quarles leading the team with 416 assists while Johnson is shortly behind with 331. Johnson also leads the team with 33 service aces this season. Defensively, 
Najlaa Williams has been etching her name in the record books as she has a team and conference-high 393 digs averaging 4.01 digs per set and a .902 receiving percentage. 
Kennedy Hoge has been the swiss army knife of the team with 78 kills, 26 service aces (Second on team) and 203 digs (Second on team). 
Amaya Cooper leads the team in blocks with 52. Eubanks leads the team with 241 points while Cooper follows closely behind her with behind her with 233.
Scouting the Opponent – Virginia Union Panthers
The Panthers are coming into the match 12-9 (8-6 CIAA) and rank a place in front of the Trojans in third place in the Northern Division of the CIAA having won their last two matches. The Panthers are offensively led by Amilex Lopez-Ayala 225 points, 196 kills, a hitting percentage of .207. Setter Ashlee Franklin is third in the conference 5.94 assists per set. Defensively , the Panthers are led by the 5'10 junior Jade Lane who has accounted for 42 blocks this season. While she is known for her defensive presence, she also makes noise on the offensive as well with 106 kills in the season which ranks her second on the team.
