ETTRICK, VA. – The HBCU D2 Football Coaches Poll Powered by BOXTOROW released its Week Eight Rankings on Tuesday as Virginia State moved up two spots to #8 after earning a much needed victory over the Vikings of Elizabeth City State 34-12.
The eighth-place ranking comes after the Trojans soundly beat ECSU 34-12 thanks to a season-high 53 rushing attempts that led to 278 yards and three touchdowns. The defense has now caught an interception in seven of eight games this season after adding another to their repertoire.
Virginia Union remains atop of the D2 HBCU rankings after a hard fought 45-20 victory over Lincoln (Pa.). Fayetteville State was able to down Johnson C. Smith 21-13 to remain at #5. Chowan continues to shake up the Northern Division rankings after a 21-15 statement win over Bowie State which moved them two spots up to seventh. Bowie State moved down to the 10
th spot after falling to Chowan 21-15.
The Trojans will have their work cut out for them this weekend as they will have to fight off the Lions of Lincoln University (Pa.) on their Senior Day Saturday, October 29 at 1:00 p.m. in the LU Athletics Stadium.
