VSU Volleyball to Defend Home Court in Divisional Matchup Against Lincoln (Pa.)

ETTRICK, VA – The Virginia State University Trojan volleyball team is coming off a tough weekend after going 1-2 in the second and final CIAA Volleyball Roundup of the season. They are now looking to get back on track this week as they are scheduled to face off against Lincoln University (Pa.) Thursday, October 13 at 6:00 p.m.

Last Time Out
This past weekend, the Trojans traveled to Raleigh, North Carolina to take part in the second CIAA Volleyball Roundup of the season. The squad faced off against Winston-Salem State University in which they lost 3-1 despite a career performance by Najlaa Williams as she racked up what was then a career-high 31 digs against the Rams. Zaria Irons led in two categories as she had three aces and four blocks. The Trojans took their frustrations out on Johnson C. Smith University as they earned the sweep against the Golden Bulls 3-0. Helena Eubanks led the charge for the Trojans in that match as she had 14 kills with a .273 kill percentage. Freshman Kelsea Saulny contributed largely on the defensive side as she tied with Eubanks for the team-high in blocks with three. The third match was against St. Augustine's University in which they lost a close one 2-3 to the Falcons. Najlaa Williams had yet another career performance as she set a new career-high in digs again with 34. Eubanks put forth her a season-high performance with 17 kills.
 
 
Series History
The Trojans are 19-0 against the Lincoln Lions since 2012. Their last match resulted in a 3-0 sweep against the Lions.
 
 
Trojans Leaders
Helena Eubanks leads the Trojans on the offensive side as she has a team-high 170 kills which ranks her fourth in the CIAA. Amaya Cooper is second in kills with 155 which ranks her fifth in the CIAA. Makenzy Johnson and Emma Quarles as a duo lead the Trojans in assists as they account for 589 assists between the two with Johnson having 295 assists and Quarles having 294 assists. Johnson also leads the team with 30 service aces this season. Defensively, Najlaa Williams is playing on a whole another level as she has a team and CIAA 322 digs averaging 4.03 digs per set and a .927 receiving percentage. Kennedy Hoge is second on the team with 139 which places her nineth in the CIAA in digs. Amaya Cooper leads the team in blocks with 42 which places her fourth in the CIAA. The team is coming into the match second in the CIAA in kills (798), assists (691), blocks (120.0), service aces (149) and digs (1,055).
 
 
Scouting the Opponent – Lincoln University Lions
The Lions are coming into the match 4-12 (1-11 CIAA) and rank last in the Norther Division of the CIAA having lost their last five matches. The Lions are offensively led by Haley Loper who has a team-high 127 kills with 2.65 kills per set. Janaa Smith leads their team in assists and service aces with 167 assists and 30 aces. Defensively, the Lions are led by Mariah Webster who has a team-high 141 digs with a .904 receiving percentage. Erinn Taylor leads the team in blocks with 29. The Lions as a group rank third in the CIAA in hitting percentage with a .108 percentage.

The Trojans will be back the road again but they won't be traveling far as they hit I-95 to Richmond, VA to face off against Virginia Union for the first time this season in Richmond, VA on Monday, October 17 at 6:00 p.m.
