ETTRICK, VA - Virginia State University announces the highly anticipated official 2021 football schedule. Head Coach
Reggie Barlow and the Trojans are preparing for a great season as the squad will see what they are made of after a season off due to the pandemic.
The schedule consists of a nine-game campaign that features five home games and four away games. The season will open at home against Lenoir-Rhyne University on Sept. 4 at 6pm. The LR Bears have gone 16-2 in the fall and spring seasons combined, while making a run at the National Championship in 2019 before falling to the champions in West Florida.
Competing in their first road game of the season, the Trojans will travel to Columbus, OH to face Ohio Dominican University on Sept. 11. The 1pm game marks the first match up between the programs.
VSU will pack up and hit the road again to take on the Broncos of Fayetteville State University to open conference play on Sept. 25 at 7pm. The Trojans will look to notch another win to the series record as VSU holds a 4-3 lead against Fayetteville State who was also predicted to finish second in the conference.
The next week, St. Augustine's University will meet Virginia State at Rogers Stadium on Oct. 2 at 6pm as the Trojans will look to attain their first win in the month of October.
Elizabeth City State University will be the visitors at Rogers Stadium week six of the season on Oct. 9 at 6pm. The Trojans offense exploded in the last meeting between the two teams as VSU took the win 54-21.
The rivalry against the predicted conference champions, Bowie State University, will be on the turf of the Bulldogs as the Trojans will look to earn a victory to put an end to the two-game losing streak against BSU on Oct. 16 at 1pm. This will be the first road televised game of the season for the Trojans with the game being viewable on Aspire TV.
The month will end with the long-awaited homecoming 2021 game against the Lions of Lincoln University (Pa.) (Oct 23) and a meeting with the the Hawks of Chowan University for Senior Day on Oct 30.
The Battle of I-95 between the VSU Trojans and Virginia Union Panthers will round out the regular season on Nov. 6 at 1pm in Richmond, Va. This long time rivalry match-up will also be televised on Aspire TV.
