ETTRICK, VA (March 14, 2021) –
Game 1
Bluefield State College picked up from where they left off yesterday, scoring three runs at the top of the first inning. Tanner Brandon brought in the first run of the day with an infield single to score JR McRee. Brandon saw the baseball like a beach ball all weekend as he accumulated six hits over the weekend which included a double, two triples and a grand slam. Following two walks to load the bases,
Robert Hatcher walked Noah Wootten and Roman Moore to make the score 3-0.
The Trojans would immediately answer with a run of their own, as
Joshua Tayman added yet another RBI to his season total to make the score 3-1 heading into the top of the second inning.
While Hatcher only allowed just two hits over three innings, the Trojans made a push for the lead as
Emmett Jefferson singled into center field and later came around to score from second on a throwing error by the shortstop. A batter later,
Aaron Harris reached on an error by the third baseman which brought
Chase Moore in to score to tie it up at 3-3.
Cecil Henderson then drew a bases loaded walk to score
Carl Granderson from third to put the Trojans on top 4-3 at the bottom of the fourth inning. Bluefield State would immediately score the next inning on a Kevon Moxey sacrifice fly that tied the score at 4-4.
After two scoreless innings, Moxey hit a line drive into center field for his second RBI of the game. The clutch hit scored CJ Cooper from third which put BSC on top late in the seventh inning, 5-4. The Trojans were able to load the bases at the bottom of the seventh inning with two outs.
Aaron Harris would fail to capitalize as he flew out to center to allow Bluefield State to take game three of the series by a score of 5-4.
Jonathan Oster took home the win in his efficient performance allowing just 1 hit and no runs. Daniel Rayfield earned a save in the game as he allowed just three hits.
Following a shaky start,
Robert Hatcher pitched well enough to complete the game as he struck out four. Despite the solid game, Hatcher took the first loss of his career allowing five earned runs.

Nick Woolfolk of VSU and Nick Workman of BSC, held the score at 1-1 for 4 innings until the top of the seventh inning. Austin Stambaugh was able to break the 1-1 tie with a single into right field to score Wootten to make the final score 2-1.
Nick Workman capped a stellar performance with a win as he allowed just one run on four hits while hitting striking out five and walking two.
