Game Recap: Baseball |

Trojans split with Tigers on day one

ETTRICK, VA (April 17, 2021) –
Game One
After two scoreless innings, Salem International would see two runners in scoring position thanks to a Noah Suarez single and an Austin Earl walk. Suarez stole second on the next at - bat then proceeded to third base on a passed ball. Austin Earl followed by drawing a walk and advanced to second base.  Austin Whetz was responsible for bringing his teammate in to score on a sacrifice fly ball to left field that made the score 1-0 at the top of the third inning.
The top of the fourth inning started with back - to - back batters being hit by a pitch that put the Trojans behind the eight ball early. Salem would parlay those base runners into a couple of runs. Later that inning, Alan Larocque cleared the base paths with a triple into right center field that would bring two in to score. Larocque later scored on a passed ball which would make the score 6-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning.
The Trojans however, would cut into that lead when it was their turn to bat. Jeremiah Hardy scored the first run of the day for Virginia State on an error by the third baseman. Chase Moore would then score Tayvon Dawson on a sacrifice bunt to the pitcher. Cecil Henderson reached on an error which scored Miles Burton from third base which made the score 6 - 3 at the bottom of the fourth inning.
The score would remain the same throughout the rest of the game giving Salem International the win in game one.

Despite the hot start, Jeremiah Hardy would take his third loss of the season after walking six and allowing six runs. Tyquon Wilkins took over after 3.2 innings as he finished the game allowing just two hits and no runs for the remainder of the game.

Game Two
The story of game two was the efficiency of Jarren Norman and the defense as he was able to strike out four batters and gave up just two hits en route to his complete game shutout.
Jeremiah Hardy drove in the first run of the game in the bottom portion of the first inning which brought Henderson in to score to make the score 1-0. Hardy looked like he was swinging a 2x4, as he was 1.000 from the batter's box with three RBI in game two.
VSU wouldn't score again until the bottom of the fourth after Chase Moore drew a bases loaded walk followed by Henderson being hit by a pitch that brought Burton in to make the score 3-0 heading into the top of the fifth inning. Following yet another scoreless half inning, the Trojans added another run after Hardy squared up on yet another ball to make the score 4-0.
Two more insurance runs came across in the bottom of the sixth due to Kevin Russell reaching first on an error, which allowed Emmett Jefferson to score. Later that inning, Henderson scored the last run of the day after Hardy drew a bases loaded walk which made the final score 6 - 0.
