Trojans prepare for CIAA Quarterfinals against Claflin

ETTRICK, VA  (November 12, 2021) – The VSU Trojans volleyball team prepares to take down Claflin University in the Quarterfinals of the CIAA tournament on November 16 inside of the VSU Multipurpose center.  The one and only goal at this point for the Trojans, is to make it to Bowie State University to face the winner of Shaw University and Johnson C. Smith in the CIAA Semifinals.
 
Last Time Out
The Trojans faced off against the Bowie State Bulldogs taking them down three sets to one as the Virginia State athletic department honored the seniors on the VSU volleyball team. After losing the first set 25-21, VSU would answer back by winning the ensuing set 25-15. The final two sets could have went either way but the home team was able to prevail in both by a score of 25-23. Jodorrian Taylor led the match in kills with 14 while Zaria Irons had a team-high three aces.
 
Series History
The Trojans dominate the all-time series against the Panthers with an undefeated record of three wins to none. The last time the two teams saw one another was the CIAA Roundup hosted by the Trojans in which the hosts took down CU 3-1.
 
Trojans Leaders
Offensively the Trojans are led my Helena Eubanks as she has a team-high 215 kills and 233.5 total points. Makenzy Johnson leads the team in assists with a team-high 377 while Emma Quarles accounts for 329 off the bench. On defense, the Trojans are led by Najlaa Williams with 235 digs with an average of 3.73 digs per set. Bethany Henry leads the team in blocks with 46 with an average of 0.65 blocks per set.
 
Scouting the Panthers
Claflin is offensively by Simone Newell who has a team-high 179 kills. Monae Rowser leads the team in assists with 335 with an average of 3.94 assists per set. On defense, the Vikings are led by Simone Newell who has a team-high 246 digs with an average of 2.89 digs per set. Sadaiya Edourd leads the team in blocks with 57 with an average of 0.78 blocks per set.

If the Trojans win, they will go head-to-head with the winner of Shaw and Johnson C. Smith November 19 on the campus of Bowie State University.
