Trojan Volleyball Secures 3 Game CIAA Roundup Sweep

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 WINSTON-SALEM, NC (October 3, 2021)- The Virginia State University Volleyball team added to their conference winning streak by sweeping the competition at the 2-day CIAA Roundup, hosted by Winston-Salem State University. The Trojans took down Livingstone College (3-0), St. Augustine's University (3-1), and Fayetteville State University (3-1).

Game 1 v. Livingstone
In their first contest of the roundup, the Trojans kept the Blue Bears under 20 points in all 3 sets. Contributing to the teams .439 attack percentage was junior Ambria McBride and freshman Helena Eubanks each with 6 kills. Sophomore Emma Quarles stepped in with 13 assists while freshman Najlaa Williams accounted for 6 digs on the Trojans 3-set victory.

Game 2 v. St. Augustine's
Despite coming up short in the first set, VSU regrouped to take the remaining sets for a 3-1 victory. Eubanks and McBride continued to control the floor for VSU with 13 and 11 kills respectively. Quarles secured 26 assists for the Trojans, while Williams snagged 11 digs.

Game 3 v. Fayetteville State
Competing in their only matchup on the final day of the roundup, VSU had to find momentum after falling in set 1. Leading the Trojans with 15 kills and 4 blocks was junior Jodorrian Taylor. Adding to the 3-1 win over the 2019 CIAA Champions was Eubanks with 13 kills. Quarles remains consistent, collecting 26 assists, while Williams added 9 digs.

Next Up
The Trojans will return home on October 7 to face the newest members of the CIAA northern division, the Shaw University Bears. The first serve is set for 6pm.
