ETTRICK, VA – Virginia State University wins their first game of the year against St. Augustine's University after a second half shut out by the VSU defense in the Saturday evening contest.

How It Happened
- After the dangerous return man, Andre Jackson, gave the Trojans a kickoff return of 29 yards, the VSU offense set up shop at the 34-yard line. Demetrius Strickland led the 10-play opening drive, as he gained 30 yards on the ground and capped it off with a touchdown. After a failed extra point attempt, the Trojans took the lead 6-0.
- Following a three-and-out, the ball was snapped over the head of Jesus Valenzuela into the end zone of the Trojans to put the Falcons on the board 6-2 with: 48 left to go in the first quarter.
- While VSU had to kick off from their own 20 yard line, Darius Hagans limited the SAU return to just the 33 yard line of the Falcons.
- Christopher Perkins spun a ball 42 yards down the field to the Falcons leading receiver Deandre Proctor down to the 15 yard line of the Trojans to start the second quarter. The stifling Trojan defense forced a third down incompletion the next series to force a 29-yard field goal that went wide left to hold the score at 6-2 with 13:09 left in the second half.
- With the ball back in the possession of the Trojans, D'Vonte Waller faced a 3rd-and-9 situation. Waller extended the play before connecting with Jevon LaPierre who took the ball all the way down to the two yard line to make it a 77-yard gain. Despite having their backs against the wall, SAU stood tall in the red zone which forced a 31-yard field goal from the foot of Nicholas Woolfolk to make the score 9-2 with 8:58 remaining in the half.
- The Falcons would answer the next drive with a 15-play, 84-yard drive that took nearly eight minutes off the clock. The scoring drive was capped off with a 2-yard run by Keyshown Lindsey to knot the score at 9-9 with 1:06 left in the half.
- Following a penalty on the kickoff, the VSU offense set up shop at the 48 yard line of the Falcons. After working the ball down the 23 yard line, Waller connected with Roy Jackson, III to give the Trojans a lead and the first touchdown throw of the season with: 14 to go in the half.
- The Trojans took the lead into the half, 16-9.
- Following a stop out of the half by the Trojan defense, SAU got a fourth down stop after tackling Strickland at the line of scrimmage with 5:24 in the third quarter.
- After a series of punts, Woolfolk would split the uprights from 23 yards away to make the score 19-9 with 14:10.
- Javon Frazier single handedly wrecked the next drive with a sack on first down and a sack, fumble on second down recovered by Javon Burks on the 6 yard line of the Falcons.
- The next play, Andre Jackson took a jet sweep six yards to the end zone to push the VSU lead out to 26-9 with 12:29 left in the game.
- Both teams traded stops until Toure Wallace shook off would be tacklers on his way to the end zone from 66 yards away to make the final score 33-9.

- Kolby Hunter and Javon Burks smelled blood in the water against the SAU offensive line as they combined for four tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks.
- Kolby Hunter, Javon Burks and Duane Platt earned their first sacks of the season while Nick Craig and Daiquan Richardson received their first career sacks in the contest.
- Preseason First Team All-CIAA selection, Javon Frazier, now has 6.5 sacks on the 2021 season.
