ETTRICK, VA (February 10, 2020)- The Virginia State University women's basketball team fell short of a win against the Bulldogs of Bowie State University with a 51-48.
The loss moves the Trojans to a 9-16 overall record, 4-8 in the conference.
The Game
The Trojans had a slow start to the game until Jordan Miller secured a shot from behind the arc. Natalia Leaks gave VSU additional points in the opening quarter, with the Trojans trailing 14-7.
Gaining momentum in the second quarter with 3-pointers, Autumn Hopson led VSU to take a 25-19 lead going into halftime.
Evenly matched on the court in the 3rd quarter the Trojans worked to stay consistent, but the Bulldogs closed the scoring gap to tie the game 33-all going into the final quarter.
Yazmen Hannah started the 4th quarter with a 3-point shot to break the tie and move VSU ahead. The Trojans worked to outscore BSU, but they were not able to hold them off in the final minutes. VSU fell short, as the visiting Bulldogs jumped ahead to take the 51-48 win.
Leaders
Natalia Leaks took charge of the Trojans scoring with 20 points, while Autumn Hopson, Yazmen Hannah and Jalynn Spaulding each chipped in 6 rebounds to lead the VSU in recoveries.

The VSU women's basketball team will host the Lions of Lincoln University (PA) on Thursday, February 13 for the Trojans annual senior day recognitions. Tipoff is set for 5:30pm at the VSU Multipurpose Center.
