Box Score ETTRICK, VA (February 13, 2020)- The Virginia State University women's basketball team took a loss to the Lions of Lincoln University, 65-58 , on the Trojans final regular season home game.
The loss moves the Trojans to a 9-17 overall record, 4-9 in the conference.
The Game
Despite the visiting Lions taking an early lead in the opening quarter, the Trojans gained momentum to close the scoring gap.
Brianna Jones jump started the Trojans 6-0 run with a shot in the paint. Free throw action allowed VSU to move within scoring range, trialing 15-14 at the end of the first quarter.
Although baskets were being made, Trojans were not able to keep up with the speed of Lincoln in the second quarter. VSU entered the locker room with a 36-21 scoring deficit.
The battle continued in the third and fourth quarter as the Trojans worked to bounce back. VSU got within 3 points of tying the game in the fourth quarter but were not able to seal the win.
VSU fell short, as the visiting Lions jumped ahead to take the 65-58 victory.
Leaders
Natalia Leaks took charge of the Trojans scoring with 12 points and 3 steals, while
Raelyn Muldrow controlled VSU's recovered with 6 defensive rebounds.
Up Next
The VSU women's basketball team will travel to Elizabeth City, NC to face the Vikings of Elizabeth City State University on February 15. Tipoff is set for 2pm.
