ETTRICK, VA (January 15, 2020)- The Virginia State University Trojans relied on their second half comeback to elevate them to a 76-66 victory over the St. Augustine's University Falcons. The non-conference win moves the Trojans to 12-5 overall record and an undefeated 6-0 conference record.
First Half
Wasting no time
Walter Williams knocked down a shot from behind the arc seconds into the matchup. The Falcons quickly answered back to take a 5-3 lead over the Trojans. It was not long before
Armond Griebe and
Andrew Corum teamed up to take a 6-5 lead.
The constant lead change cause Griebe to answer back with a jumper to tie the game 8-all.
Despite SAU taking a brief lead, VSU worked to battled back to regain control. A floater by Williams move the Trojans ahead, 18-17, with 5:58 left in the half.
Lual Daniel Rahama kept the momentum going with a shot in the paint.
Although the Falcons tied the game 21-all then took the lead, the Trojans stayed consistent on the court to close the scoring gap.
At the half, VSU trailed SAU, 29-25.

Second Half
The half opened with numerous baskets by both teams. A scoring deficit did not keep the Trojans down, as back to back shots by
Antwan Miles, Williams and Rahama gave the home team a 39-38 lead.
The Trojans found their footing, securing much needed points to hold their lead. With 9:53 left in the game, VSU lead 46-45.
Despite another lead change in favor of the Falcons, it was short lived as Williams secured a shot from the perimeter followed by Miles with layup to take a 53-50 advantage. Francis "BJ" Fitzgerald would soon step in to extend the Trojans lead, 57-53. The battle continued as the clock ran down and the Trojans maintained control.
A crowd please play and basket by Miles got the VSU fans on their feet in support of the home teams visible run for a victory. Fitzgerald kept the fans on their toes with a putback dunk seconds left in regulation.
VSU second half bounce back help them secure a 76-66 victory over SAU.

Leaders
Walter Williams took control of the Trojans scoring with 18 points, followed by Francis "BJ" Fitzgerald with 16 points.
Antwan Miles rounded out the double figure scoring with 14 points.
Andrew Corum and Fitzgerald were equally match, securing 8 rebounds each, while Miles led VSU with 6 assists and 3 steals.
