ETTRICK, VA (September 5, 2019)- The countdown to the start of the 2019 VSU Trojans Football season is almost over as the Trojans prepare to gear up and travel to Norfolk, VA to take on Norfolk State University for the 2019 Atlantic Union Bank Battle of the States Football Game. The matchup between big state (VSU) and little state (NSU) will be held on Saturday, September 7 at 6pm at William "Dick" Price Stadium.
The Trojans currently hold a 26-25-1 series record over the Spartans, since they first started their big state verses little state football rivalry in 1963.
Last season, VSU took a 34-13 loss in the historic matchup, where quarterback Cordelral Cook made an impact on the field for the Trojans finishing with 170 yards on a 14-for-26 performance while throwing two interceptions. Cook also rushed for 22 yards and two touchdowns.
Under the leadership of 4th year head coach Reggie Barlow, the Trojans have added numerous student-athletes to the roster to help elevate them to a victory over the Spartans and the rest of their opponents this season. Alongside the new talent on the roster, VSU returned several key players from last season to include seniors Cordelral Cook, Stephen Harris, Maurice Davis and 2019 CIAA Preseason pick Frank Ball.
