LOUISVILLE, KY (Sept. 14, 2019)- The VSU Trojan volleyball team split the final day of the Bellarmine Invite with a 3-2 win over Christian Brothers University after falling to Minnesota State- Mankato

The Trojans hold a 2-6 on the season after competing in 2 consecutive weekend tournaments.

The opening day 2 match of the invite featured the VSU and the MSU-Mankato. Despite the Trojans falling 3-0 (25-11, 25-12, 25-13), Kennedi Cannon and Ambria McBride were equally matched with 5 kills each, while McBride tallied 2 aces.

Battling back in their final contest of the invite, the Trojans outlasted CBU in a 3-2 victory (25-21, 14-25, 18-25, 27-25, 15-13). VSU maintained the lead to the 25-21 set 1 win, but Christian Brothers bounced back to secure sets 2 and 3. Set 4 tied 9 times as both teams rallied for the win. An attack error and kill by Jailyn Ivey gave VSU the 27-25 set 4 win. Both teams worked to take the set 5 lead and the win, but the Trojans gained an edge to secure the 15-13 set win and the game.

Jailyn Ivey dominated the court leading the game with 20 kills, while Emma Quarles stepped in with 23 assists.

The Trojans will return to action on Sept. 17 against the Hawks of Chowan University. The first serve is set for 6pm at the VSU Multipurpose Center
