Baseball Prepares for Independent Conference Tournament

ETTRICK, VA- The Virginia State University baseball team is in full swing with post season play as they prepare for the Independent Tournament in Marion, NC on May 2-5.

Competing for the tournament trophy along with VSU will be Bluefield State University, Claflin University, Salem University, and the host Winston-Salem State University.

The Trojans, under the leadership of head coach Merrill Morgan, will enter the tournament with a 17-18 overall record. After facing majority of these teams during the regular season, VSU looks to go into each matchup focused and ready to compete.

Leading VSU offensively with 33 runs, 51 hits, and 21 RBI's is senior Jahleel Sewer. Although several Trojans added a homerun to the books, Kevin Russell led the charge for the team with 6 homeruns this season along with tallying 247 putouts.

VSU will open the Tournament with a matchup against the Panthers of Claflin University at 5pm.
