Richmond, Va. (February 9, 2019) - The Virginia State University men's basketball team (20-4, 12-1 CIAA) suffered a tough 75-67 loss to the Panthers of Virginia Union tonight at Barco-Stevens Hall. With the loss the Trojans snap a 16 game winning streak.

Jalen Jackson finished with 14 points on 5-of-11 shots from the field to go along with one rebound, one assist, one block and one steal .
Antwan Miles collected 14 points, two rebounds and three assists. Â
Jahmere Howze posted a 11-point performance, to go with five rebounds, two assists and two steals. Rounding out the Trojan double digit scoring was
Andrew Corum who finished the contest with contributing 10 points.

 The Trojans forced 13 Virginia Union turnovers in the contest. Virginia State led by as many as 21 in the second half. The score was 38-33 at the half, but Virginia Union (9-8, 5-2 CIAA) continued to add points with 37 points in the second half to grow its lead with 2:05 to go. From there, the Panthers continued to add points to the board ending the game 75-67.

Will Jenkins paced Virginia Union with 23 points on 11-of-16 shooting, while Terrell Leach added 21 points. The Trojans started the game strong securing a 10-point advantage over the Panthers, a lead that they held the lead the entire contest.

The Panthers collected a 38-33 halftime advantage, with eight different Trojans scoring in the opening period.

Despite their turnovers, the Panthers managed to  in the game in the second half due to their free throw shooting, as they connected on six of 11 shots in the second half. Virginia Union finished the contest shooting 61.1 percent from the free throw line. The Trojans finished the contest shooting 83.3 percent from the free throw line.

FIRST HALF DOMINANCE:Â Virginia State has scored 25 or more points in the first half of majority of the games this season, scoring 33 in the first half tonight.
