Virginia State Baseball Set To Open 2019 Season

ETTRICK, Va. (February 5, 2019) -The Virginia State University baseball team will open the 2019 season on April 8th in the Peachtree City Classic hosted by Clark Atlanta University.

Friday, Feb. 8
Virginia State vs. LeMoyne-Owens College | 12 p.m.

Saturday, Feb. 9
Virginia State vs. Clark Atlanta University | 10 a.m. 
Virginia State vs. Fairmont State University | 1 p.m. 
 
Sunday, Feb. 10
Virginia State vs. TBD | TBD 

The athletic event will be played at Home Plate Field which is located at 611 Highway 74 South, Peachtree City, Ga. 30269.

Need to Know
After finishing the 2018 regular season with an overall record of 26-15-1, the Trojans are looking to have another break out season with the return of 15 players from last year's team.
 
Despite losing several key starters, the Trojans have found leader in returners Aaron Harris, Jahleel Sewer, Cecil Henderson, Jeremiah Hardy, Sisqo Scott, Adarius Moody, Delmarcus Talley, Jarren Norman, Joshua Heigh and Keyon Smith. Head Coach Merrill Morgan has also added 10 additional talent to the roster to help make this season a success.
 
Scouting Report
 
LeMoyne-Owen College Magicians
LeMoyne-Owen College finished 4-29 (3-15 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) in 2018. The Magicians finished fifth in the SIAC Western Division with a (3-10) division record.  
 
VSU's All-Time Record vs. LeMoyne-Owen College: 0-0
The two programs will meet for the first time in program history this upcoming weekend.
 
Clark Atlanta University  
Clark Atlanta University is coming off a 18-23 (10-11 SIAC) season and returns 11 to this year's roster including five seniors in Ceontae Brandon, Jordan Johnson, Ayrton Gijsbertha, Jason Howell and Garett Alexander. The Panthers finished third in the SIAC Eastern Division with a (7-8) division record.
 
VSU's All-Time Record vs. Clark Atlanta University: 6-0
The Trojans and the Panthers have not met since Feb. 10, 2017 when Virginia State defeated Clark Atlanta (18-4).

Fairmont State University  
Fairmont State University is coming off a 23-26 (15-17 MEC) season and was picked to finish fourth in the 2019 Mountain East Conference Baseball Preseason Poll.

The two programs will meet for the first time in program history this upcoming weekend.

What's Next?
After the road trip to Atlanta, the Trojans will return home for its 2019 season home opener a three games series against Post University on Saturday (Feb. 16). The first game is slated for 1 p.m.  The Trojans will return on Sunday with first pitch slated for 1 p.m. The Trojans will close out the series on Monday, February 18 at 1 p.m.
