ETTRICK, Va. (February 16, 2019) – The Virginia State University women's basketball team (11-13, 5-10 CIAA) shot 66.7 percent from the free throw line to claim their fifth CIAA win of the season against Elizabeth City State University (13-13, 5-10 CIAA) this afternoon, 59-55.
Junior guard
Yazmen Hannah went seven of 16 from behind the arc and four-of-seven from
the line to lead Virginia State with scoring 19 points, eight rebounds, three assists and four steals. Senior
Chrisanna Green finished the contest with another double-double performance this season contributing 15 points and 13 rebounds.
Autumn Hopson rounded out the Trojans double digit scoring who finished with 13 points each, respectively.
The Lady Vikings were led by Asia Deal who posted 16 points and one rebound. Jalyn Borwn was their second highest scorer with 11 points, while Naterria Luster added 10 points.
How It Happened
Virginia State opened the game with a 19-14 lead over Elizabeth City State to close out the first quarter. ECSU continued to put points on the board outscoring the Trojans in the second, 8-6, as Virginia State took a 25-22 advantage at the half.
Chrisanna Green secured the opening basket to start the third quarter to give the Trojans a 27-24 advantage.
Yazmen Hannah added a layup to grow the Trojans lead 34-32 with 5:04 left in the quarter. Virginia State then added its final points with a layup by
Yazmen Hannah to bring the score 41-36 to end the period.
Virginia State continued to put up points over the remaining minutes to close out the game giving them a 59-55 victory.
Chrisanna Green collected two from form the free throw line to close out the scoring for the Trojans.

> Elizabeth City State shot 37 percent (20-of-54) from the floor and 78.6 percent (11-of-14) from the free-throw line
