MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Virginia State University women's basketball team (10-13, 4-10 CIAA) shot 50 percent from the three-point line to claim their fourth CIAA win of the season at Chowan University (12-11, 8-5 CIAA) on Wednesday night, 55-49. With the victory the Trojans snap a three-game losing streak. 
 
Junior guard 
Yazmen Hannah Senior went four of eight from behind the arc and four-of-four from the line to lead Virginia State with scoring 14 points, four rebounds, two assists and two blocks. Juniors 
Tajah Clark and 
Ebony Reynolds rounded out the Trojans double digit scoring who finished with 10 points each, respectively.          
 
The Lady Hawks were led by Jada Lee who posted 18 points and six rebounds. Danielle Weldon was their second highest scorer with 16 points, while Joanne Williams added four points. 
 
How It Happened
Virginia State opened the game with a 14-12 lead over Chowan to close out the first quarter. The Trojans continued to put points on the board outscoring the Lady Hawks in the second, 18-13, as Virginia State took a 32-25 advantage at the half. 
 
Chrisanna Green secured the opening basket to start the third quarter to give the Trojans a 34-25 advantage. 
Aja Robertson added one from the free throw line to grow the Trojans lead 39-29 with 2:20 left in the quarter. Virginia State then added its final points with a layup by 
Tajah Clark  to bring the score 41-32 to end the period.  
 
Virginia State continued to put up points over the remaining minutes to close out the game giving them a 55-49 victory. 
Tajah Clark collected the final basket to close out the scoring for the Trojans.
 
Inside the Numbers
> Virginia  State was 18-of-52 (34.6 percent) shooting and 14-of-22 (63.6 percent) from the charity stripe
> Chowan shot 25 percent (15-of-60) from the floor and 75 percent (15-of-20) from the free-throw line
> Virginia State finished with 10 points off CU turnovers and 16 second-chance points
> CU tallied 21 points off VSU turnovers and 17 second-chance points
