ETTRICK, VA (December 14, 2019)- The VSU Trojans women's basketball team defeat the Bears of Shaw University, 66-59, to move ahead with a 7-5 overall record.
FIRST QUARTER
Va Draunidalo put the Trojans on the board with a swift layup to open the game.
Yazmen Hannah would soon follow with a shot from the perimeter after gaining two shots at the line.
The Trojans worked to control the court as Chiquiera Cook stepped in with a shot off the glass, followed by a Bears turnover and layup by
Natalia Leaks.
Hannah sent VSU into the first timeout of the game with a 3-pointer, giving the Trojans a 14-8 lead.
Bianca White kept the 3-point game going with back to back shots giving VSU a double-figure lead.
Despite the Bears attempting to apply pressure,
Shalyn Washington saw several openings to secure a layup followed by two shots at the line.
At the end of the first quarter, VSU held a 29-10 lead over Shaw.

SECOND QUARTER
Draunidalo mimicked her first quarter action, starting VSU off with a 3-pointer in the opening minutes of the second.
Although Shaw went on a small run, Hannah answered back with a shot from behind the arc to give the Trojans a 35-16 lead.
The quarter seemingly ruled in favor of the Bears for outscoring the home team, but the Trojans held strong to their lead with a halftime score of 35-20.

THIRD QUARTER
Returning to the court from the half, there was an even exchange of shots from both teams.
After a brief run by Shaw, Hannah returned to break the cycle with a shot from behind the arc. The Bears continued their attempt to bounce back, but the Trojans shots in the paint kept the home team in the game.
At the end of the third quarter, the Trojans were up 46-37.

FOURTH QUARTER
Working to extend their lead, VSU secured the first shots of the final period.
Despite made baskets by Shaw, Cook changed the momentum of the game by driving to the basket for a shot in favor of the Trojans.
Numerous called fouls on the Bears put the Trojans at an advantage with 5:05 left in regulation. At the Bears charged timeout, VSU held a 53-49 lead.
Leaks returned from the timeout with a swift move to add to VSU's lead.
Numerous secured free throws and a shot from the perimeter by Draunidalo sealed the 66-59 win for the Trojans.

The VSU women's basketball team will travel to Raleigh, NC to face the Falcons of St. Augustine's University. The December 16 matchup is set for 4pm.
